Sarah Shorter
Where were you before starting coaching?
I had always felt as though I was bad at sport, and that I was doing everything wrong when I tried to get fitter on my own, and that it was my fault when it wasn't working. I do a job where I travel quite a bit, so I was also looking for tools and a mindset for training that meant whatever routine I did get into for fitness didn't fall apart the minute I was away from home for a bit. I also wanted to feel stronger and more capable in my own body.
Why did you choose to work with your trainer?
Train is really local to me, and I knew that if I was going to stick to something new like this it would have to be something that was, at least initially, very accessible. I love how embedded Train is within the community here. In looking into personal training more broadly, I knew I would respond to one on one training better than classes in a gym, because one on one is how I was trained for my job, and it is also how I teach. It gave me confidence to know that someone external was looking at my training and telling me what I was doing wrong, yes, but also what I was doing right and what was working, which for me is huge, because self doubt is often why I have abandoned fitness goals in the past.
What have you achieved so far working with your trainer?
We have been working on my strength and this has come on hugely since I started. I have discovered that weight lifting is something that I actively enjoy, which is great because I had never had the opportunity to try it before. I have gone from doing pretty much no exercise other than the occasional jog to exercising every day, and actively looking forward to it. During lockdown, my check-ins with Johnathan and the routines he gave me to do at home kept me sane, and kept me healthy, and gave me the mental strength to pursue other projects while my job has been shut down.
By working with my trainer I learned how to
Working with Johnathan has made me a stronger, happier, and a more resilient person in body and mind.
Why should someone work with Train MBS? What makes Train different from your perspective?
The people at Train genuinely care about your health and well-being in all aspects of your life. They mind your boundaries, even as they encourage you to test your limits, which makes training with them feel very safe. I think this is to do with how they see themselves as part of the community, and it's one of their greatest strengths as a brand.
If someone is on the fence / nervous / or has fears about starting PT - Why should they take the leap?
I put off trying personal training for so long, and I really wish I hadn't. Just try it and see what it can do for you.
